The materials are different than listed. The description online says, "67% Merino Wool, 29% Nylon, 4% Lycra Spandex" but I've attached a photo of the socks and the label says, "59% Merino Wool, 39% Nylon, 2% Lycra Spandex". In general the sock feels very thin.

I typically wear a women's size 9-10 shoe so I bought the large size sock but it still feels too small, especially around the calves. I'm 5'8" and 120lbs.

I'm switching back to those Kirkland wool socks from Costco. For $17 you get 6 pairs and they're 72% Merino Wool. They might not last forever but the price is right and they have more cushion.

Honestly ... these socks (so far) have outperformed all other brands I've tried. I'm very hard on socks, wearing them out in the heel in no time. I'm a hard core hiker, and the socks are worn with hiking boots, water shoes, and everything in between. I've had these for 6 weeks now, and they show NO signs of wear. Not even pilling like some brands of socks I've tired.

As for comfort ... probably the best socks I've ever tried in that department. Only SmartWool brand has come close, but these Darn Tough ones have even less of a seam up at the toes, and so have no points of friction at all. Even after a long day of hiking, where my feet/shoes/socks have been wet and done miles of hiking, I'll have no signs of friction, hot spots, or blisters. I've even stopped wearing sock liners with these, since I've found I don't need them.

And while 6 weeks may not sound like a lot of time, for most sock brands, I'd already be seeing thinning and wear in the heel by now. I'll update this review as time goes on to let you know how they do!

PROS: Great color. Great comfort for the most part. Stay up well.
CON: I only wish that the ribbed upper area was not so tight, hence minus one star. (and I do not even have thick ankles or stocky legs)...pretty snug above the heel. Not so much as to cause discomfort but still it presses in so much as to leave dents (impressions) on the leg above my ankle where the stock ends. A more relaxed ribbed area above the ankle would make this the perfect sock - so long as it would still stay on as well.

I bought my first pair of these socks about 9 months ago, and I love them so much that I now have a pair for every day of the week... and then some. I have two pairs that have light cushioning, and the rest have medium cushioning. Both types are very comfortable and come in fun colors and patterns. The ones with light cushioning work the best with my walking shoes, and the ones with medium cushioning work best with my hiking boots. I have very high arches, and the ones with medium cushioning are perfect for power walking and hiking, as they provide me with extra cushioning, keep my feet dry, and don't scratch my skin like many other brands of wool socks. They really are darn tough, too. All of my pairs, including my oldest pair, still look good, work well, and are in like-new condition.

My favorite socks have always been Stance but after trying these out I'd have to say they are the best socks I've ever owned! I actually never want to take them off. I love that they are made in the USA and have a lifetime guarantee. I know this sounds gross but I'm actually on a trip right now and have worn this one pair of socks I bought to try out for 3 days now... they are so darn comfortable!!!! You won't feel any seams... they just cradle your foot like a baby. Haha. And I was very surprised that they keep your feet warm but not hot. Kinda crazy that I'm in Arizona and they aren't making my feet overheated since they are made with wool. I love the extra cushion on the bottom. Worked well off roading with my boots on added the perfect amount of Cush in my sneakers for walking around town all day. Normally my feet can get tired from walking but these took me the distance and hey.... no aching feet for me! I only bought one pair to try out for this trip due to the price but I will be buying more.

Nice but they do make my feet hot when the weather warms up. But SO much more cushion vs a regular Hanes sock. This was my first pair of "fancy" socks and I will most definitely be getting more. Much more comfortable when standing/walking all day, or even just walking around the house without shoes. SO MUCH SQUISH. They colors were lovely. Does not loosed up after one wear like most socks do. Stays in place. I love them. I wear an 8.5 wide and the fit was great. Does not squeeze my ankles are leave marks when I take them off. Just a nice, attractive, soft, well fitting sock that stays up. Win!

I initially balked at paying $20+ for a single pair of socks. I ordered a pair for me (size 9) and a pair for my husband (size 16) and I'm now completely in love with these socks. They are comfortable and so soft! The thickness doesn't make my feet sweat at all and they're perfect for wearing with my hiking boots and my heavy work boots. They're also the best performance sock I've found for my giant-footed husband. Worth the money and I'll be buying more pairs. I didn't see washing instructions included though. I know they're merino wool so I erred on the side of caution and HAVE NOT put these in the dryer.

I generally wear socks around the house without shoes, and I am notorious for getting holes in the toes and heels. I love these socks. I had a hard time justifying buying a pair of socks at this price, but the lifetime guarantee sold me. These socks are not soft and snuggly, they are thick, durable, and comfortable. The toes and heels are so thick, I really can't imagine wearing through them. I purchased 2 pairs and now I just want to wear those 2 pairs of socks all the time! I might cave and buy another pair, but I plan on trying to wait until the next time I wear a hole in one of my other pairs (which won't take long.)

A lot of money for a pair of socks but they really are excellent and they are guaranteed for life. Perfect design and fit, thick enough to provide extra comfort but not too heavy. Love the properties of wool but not all wool socks are made equal and these are the best ones I have, smartwool used to be great but haven't been impressed with the last couple of pairs I bought so I thought I'd try these and I'm glad I did. I save em for proper walks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what they were.

These used to be the best socks, worth the money. Now they're just the same polyester merino mix as all the rest. Dunno when they changed them, but mine from a couple of years ago are the absolute perfect socks. These are meh. Fine. A bit expensive for what they are. I was searching for the old darn tough socks and these are just not it. Sad face.

2.0 out of 5 stars Website photo misleading on colour

These socks are predominantly grey, not the greenish hue all over as they seem to appear on the website photo, so I'm a bit disappointed.Grey socks remind of school gym classes in the dim and distant past ! Hence my lower rating.

Comfort and quality great as usual from Darned Toughs. I think the Amazon photo needs changing to truly reflect the true colour ... i.e. in my opinion, drab. I'll definitely pay attention to the colour the next time I buy Darned Toughs.and I'll go for brighter colours.
